Divorce is expensive. When you have to divide everything you own and you are looking at supporting two households on the same amount of money that used to only have to support one household, the cost can be overwhelming! Plus, divorce lawyers aren’t cheap. They charge by the hour and, depending upon where you live, they can charge between $150 – $500+ per hour! It’s no wonder that so many people ask the question: Do I Need a Divorce Lawyer?
The problem with divorce, though, is that it isn’t an easy process. Not only is divorce itself overwhelming, but the legal system is complicated and divorce laws are often very different than what you think they are. On top of all of that, you are such an emotional wreck when you are going through a divorce that doing it on your own is rarely a good idea. (Unless you have no children, no real estate and a very short marriage, you shouldn’t even consider getting divorced on your own, without consulting with a lawyer!)
In this week’s “Two Minute Divorce Tips,” not only do I tackle the question: “Do I Need a Divorce Lawyer?” but I also give you a few tips about how you can use a divorce lawyer, but still save some money.
