What If You Could Get Divorced Without Ruining Your Life or Hurting Your Kids?

If you’re reading this page right now, here’s what I know about you.

As heart-breaking as it may be to admit it, your marriage is over.  (Or you're wondering whether it's over.)

You did everything you could to save it.

You went to marriage counseling.

You tried working on your “communication” skills.

You tried to “forgive and forget” and put the past behind you.

All of that helped … sort of … for a while.

But in the end, nothing changed.

You and your spouse are still living more like roommates than husband and wife.

You still feel like you're walking on eggshells to keep the peace.

More than ever you feel like you’re living a lie ...

... and you're not sure how much longer you can stand it.

At the same time, the thought of going into some lawyer’s office and filing for divorce makes you want to throw up.

The last thing you want to do is “lawyer up” and turn your divorce into a war.

You’ve heard stories about people who lost everything in their divorce, or whose kids never spoke to them again once it was over.

You DON’T want that to be you!

But you don’t want to get taken advantage of either. And you don’t feel like you can trust your spouse anymore.

You know you’ve only got one shot at protecting yourself. Your finances and your future depend on what you do right now.

At the same time, you don’t want to turn your divorce into an ugly mess.

The truth is, you’re really not sure WHAT you should do!

You’ve never been through a divorce before. You don’t know what to expect. You don’t know what you should (or shouldn’t!) do.

In short, you don’t know what you don’t know.

The one thing you DO know is that you don’t want to spend your life’s savings on a divorce that leaves you bitter and angry and sends your kids to therapy for years.

As an educated, intelligent, and reasonable human being who only wants what’s fair, you SHOULD be able to get divorced without causing a war, spending a fortune and screwing up your kids.

You SHOULD be able to figure this whole divorce thing out without having to hire some high-priced lawyer who just stirs the pot at your expense.

You SHOULD be able to reason with your spouse so the two of you can save money and truly put your kids first.

You also know that, even though you SHOULD be able to do all of those things, divorce doesn’t always happen that way.

And, because you've never done this before,  you're not sure what you can do to keep your divorce amicable and affordable without getting taken to the cleaners in the process.

5 Reasons Why Going Through a Divorce the Way Most People Go Through a Divorce Increases Conflict and Costs You Time and Money

1.      Most people assume that their lawyer will take care of everything for them.

It’s a natural assumption. Letting lawyers handle your divorce for you is the way people have been divorcing for decades.

The only trouble is, divorce lawyers bill by the hour. (… usually at upwards of $400 per hour!). They make money when you fight. So they’re not particularly motivated to help you divorce quickly or amicably.

Plus, the only thing most lawyers know is THE LAW.

They aren’t trained to give you financial advice, help you decide what to do with your home, or tell you what kind of parenting schedule will work best for your kids.

And while you can spend a lot of time complaining to your divorce lawyer about all the horrible things your spouse did to you, given what lawyers charge, doing that can easily create a legal bill that will rival the size of the national debt.

WHAT YOU NEED is a realistic strategy for working with a reputable divorce lawyer. You need a plan that will enable you to maximize your lawyer's effectiveness, while minimizing their time (and your bill!)

2.      A lot of people think all they need to do to get divorced is to go online. They think they can figure out everything they need to know on their own and get a cheap divorce in a couple of weeks.

That’s a beautiful dream.

A few people can make it happen.

… but most people can’t.

After all, if you and your spouse got along well enough to work out an amicable agreement on your own about your money and your kids (which are the two most important and emotional things in your life right now) you probably wouldn’t be getting a divorce.

What's more, not all information that you'll find online is accurate or up-to-date. Even information that's on attorneys' websites was often ghost-written.

Just because information is on an attorney's website doesn't mean that that attorney actually wrote it.

Trying to piece together information from multiple sources that you HOPE is reliable and PRAY is current, when your entire life savings AND the health and welfare of your kids is involved makes no sense at all.

Plus, even if you can do it, you STILL need to prepare and file legal documents and go to court at some point anyway.  That's because only a judge can divorce you.

... but most online legal document services don't tell you that.

WHAT YOU NEED is a reliable way to get professional help that doesn’t break the bank and can actually SAVE you money on legal fees when you do consult with an attorney.

3.      A lot of people think that going to mediation will keep them from spending a fortune on legal fees and will somehow make them work out a deal with their spouse … who they don’t trust and can’t talk to.

Mediation is an amazing tool! But it’s not a magic bullet. Like everything else in life, mediation works best when you understand how to use it and you're prepared when you walk in the door.

If you mediate your divorce without knowing how mediation works, and what you can expect in the process, you're not likely to get the result you want.

If you mediate your divorce without full financial information or without understanding how your finances work, you'll probably ending up cheating yourself out of money that should have been yours.

Plus, mediation doesn’t work for everyone.

While you MAY be able to force your spouse to go to mediation, you CAN'T force your spouse to make an agreement in mediation.

Mediating with someone who refuses to compromise or who is actively hiding information is a collosal waste of time and money.

WHAT YOU NEED is a clear picture of what mediation, litigation, collaborative divorce, and co-operative divorce are, and a reasonable way of figuring out which one of those divorce processes will actually work best for you.

4.      Many people think that if a judge just hears their story, they’ll get everything that they want.

Most judges hear hundreds (or thousands!) of divorce cases every year. They’re busy. They don’t have the time or the inclination to let you “tell your story.” Plus, in most cases, the court rules don’t allow you to do that anyway.

You can only tell the judge the facts that are legally significant regarding an issue you want the judge to decide.

While you may think that your spouse’s cheating was abominable, if that cheating doesn’t directly affect your divorce (and most of the time in most states it doesn’t!) you’re NEVER going to be able to tell it to the judge.

What’s more, 90 – 95% of all divorce cases settle.

So, even if you COULD theoretically tell your story to the judge, you’re probably never going to get the chance to do that.

WHAT YOU NEED is a solid plan that keeps you OUT of a court system that may not be able to provide the solutions in your divorce that you want or need. If you DO have to go to court, then you also need to understand how the court system works so that you can formulate a clear plan that will give you the best chance of achieving the result you desire.

5.      A lot of people think that because they only want “what’s fair” their divorce will be amicable.

“Fair” is the four-letter “F” word of divorce.

What YOU think is fair is probably very different from what your spouse thinks is fair. And what the lawyers or your judge thinks is fair may not look like what either you OR your spouse thinks is fair!

Thousands (probably tens of thousands) of divorcing people have spent millions of dollars fighting to the death for years, just to get what they thought was “fair.”

In the end, most of them still probably didn't get what they wanted.

WHAT YOU NEED is a way to figure out what you want, what you need, and what you are reasonably likely to get in your divorce. Then you need a way to approach and manage your divorce that is calculated to get you more of what you need or want, and less of what you don’t really care about.

The reason that so many divorces get ugly and expensive is that the way most people go about getting divorced is backward.

They start their divorce by immediately going into some lawyer’s office. They get persuaded to put down a ton of money for a big retainer fee. Then they go home and hope for the best.

If you think that all you have to do to get an amicable divorce without spending a fortune is to walk into some lawyer’s office, tell her your story and then file for divorce, you’re setting yourself up for a long and expensive battle that can easily start raging out of control.

Lawyers make money when you fight. The more you fight, the richer your lawyer gets.

If you want to control your costs, you need to understand how the divorce system works. Once you do, you can do the routine parts of your divorce (like gathering and organizing documents) yourself.  Then you can pay a lawyer to do the truly legal parts of your divorce (like drafting your divorce documents or protecting you in court) that it really takes a lawyer to do.

The more you participate in your own divorce, the more time and money you will save.

But you can only participate effectively if you know what you're doing.

That's because if you do the WRONG things, you can end up making a mess and costing yourself more time and money than you ever dreamed.

Yet, participating effectively in your divorce is the OPPOSITE of handing over your divorce to some lawyer and blindly believing that s/he will take care of everything and get you whatever you want.

Once you change the way you approach your divorce, you may find that you can:

  • Save money by using your attorney wisely;
  • Get more of what matters the most to you in your divorce by creating a strategy that focuses on what’s important;
  • Maximize your divorce settlement by implementing some simple tax strategies before you settle;
  • Create a parenting plan that is specifically tailored to the unique needs of your family, rather than adopting the “cookie-cutter” approach that so often gets used;
  • Get through your divorce with confidence, instead of being terrified that you’re missing something or making a mistake that will bury you in a financial hole for years.

All of these outcomes are totally within your reach (even if you’re afraid your spouse will be “difficult”…)

… but they all depend on you taking the bull by the horns and being the project-manager of your own divorce.

That may sound overwhelming. It may sound like something you just don’t have the energy to do right now.

But that's only because you don't understand how the divorce system works.

If you take things one step at a time, AND you complete the steps in the RIGHT ORDER,  you will find that you can manage your divorce much better than you ever dreamed.

I've been a divorce lawyer, mediator, and coach for more years than I care to admit. (Let’s just say that I measure my career in decades ... )

I’ve seen countless numbers of people, both in and out of court, make painful mistakes with their money and their kids simply because they didn’t know any better.

In some ways, that wasn't their fault.  The divorce system is NOT intuitive or user-friendly!

What's surprising, though, is that most of those people HAD lawyers!

The truth is that it's not hard for any divorce lawyer to "stir the pot."  Once they do, a divorce is practically guaranteed to take longer and cost more than it otherwise would have.

At the same time, NOT using a lawyer isn't the answer either.

Trying to "go it alone" when you don't know what you're doing opens you up to the risk of making HUGE mistakes that you may never be able to fix.

The key is to educate yourself so that you UNDERSTAND how the divorce system works FIRST. Then you'll know how to use your lawyer effectively and efficiently. You'll be able to save time and money by doing the simple tasks that your lawyer doesn't need to do (... but will do if you don't!)

Educating yourself also gives you a HUGE ADVANTAGE in your divorce. It gives you the advantage of FORESIGHT.

When you go through a divorce you're going to have to make more important life decisions than you will at almost any other time in your life. If you know what those decisions are, and you know when you're going to have to make them, you will be PREPARED in advance to make those decisions.

When you're prepared, you make better decisions.

When you make better decisions, you get a better outcome.

When you get a better outcome, you (and your kids) end up happier and healthier long-term.

That's what the Divorce Road Map 2.0 will help you do.

Beautiful woman with short, grey hair.

This was the best ... investment I have ever made, and should be REQUIRED reading for anyone at any stage of the divorce process - particularly at the beginning. Somehow she has managed to tailor the content to both parties to a divorce; no small feat for sure. (I would have saved thousands of dollars that I spent on the attorney I now have on retainer as a “consultant” since my husband and I are trying not to litigate!)

Smiling, beautiful African American professional woman

What appealed most to me about this program is that it aligns with my way of thinking. I am naturally practical and appreciate order and straight-forward action steps. I wanted and needed a “been there, done that”, objective voice of reason. I was experiencing enough conflicting thoughts, so I did not need to “add to the peanut gallery”. It was comforting to me that some actions I had already taken were on target. It also was a great road map of what to do next and to expect.

Ready-for-Divorce

When I first dove into Karen's course, I didn't really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how complete and detailed her information was. Karen answered every question I would have asked an attorney (at $400/hr by the way) and even more that I would have never thought of asking. Karen's communication style is clear and her empathy made me feel that everything was going to be ok which is so important for couples facing divorce.

    • You haven’t saved more money in attorney’s fees than you paid for the program (that is IF you use a lawyer!); and
    • You discover anywhere else on the internet that you could have gotten all of this information AND all the downloadable tools that come with this program for free; and

Questions Other People Who Were Facing Divorce Asked Before They Got the Divorce Road Map 2.0

Q: I know that divorce varies from state to state. Will this work in MY state?

    Absolutely!

Even though DIVORCE LAW varies from state to state, THE WAY DIVORCE WORKS is pretty much the same in all states.

Divorce involves emotions, finances, real estate, taxes, kids and more. That’s true no matter what state you live in. It also involves negotiation, planning and strategy. The Divorce Road Map 2.0 will help you understand how to deal with all those areas of your divorce.

(Also, FYI, The Divorce Road Map 2.0 doesn’t list out all the divorce laws in every state. Doing that would be completely mind-numbing and pretty much useless. If you want to know what the divorce law IS, ask a lawyer in your state. If you want to know how the divorce process WORKS, and how you can get through your divorce more amicably and effectively, THAT’S what you’ll discover in the Divorce Road Map 2.0.)

Q: I don’t want my spouse to know that I signed up for anything related to divorce. If I buy the Divorce Road Map 2.0, what will show up on my credit card?!

Great question! I totally get it.

That's why all you will see on your credit card is “Karen’s Programs.”  The words "divorce," "divorce lawyer," "divorce coach," or even my full name "Karen Covy," will NOT show up on your credit card.

You also have the option of using a prepaid debit card or Paypal. You can also have a friend pay for you on THEIR credit card, and then you pay your friend back!

Q: If I’m going to get an attorney anyway, why do I need the Divorce Road Map 2.0 Program?

The whole reason I created the Divorce Road Map 2.0 was because I realized that 99.99999% of all the divorce attorneys out there DIDN’T tell clients what they needed to know to get through their divorce intelligently, efficiently and economically. Aside from the fact that most lawyers suck at communicating with their clients, it’s not in your lawyer’s financial best interest to make sure YOU are educated about divorce.

What’s more, it’s not just WHAT you know that’s important. It’s WHEN you know it.

If you’re going to bake a cake, knowing that the recipe requires two eggs is important. But if you don’t realize that you’re out of eggs until after all the other ingredients are already in the mixing bowl, then making your cake suddenly becomes way more complicated.

Q: Can’t I just get all the divorce information I need for free on the internet?

    In a word: No.

Sure, you can get a lot of great information on the internet. The problem is you don’t know WHO is writing it, WHEN it was updated last, and WHETHER it’s accurate. Reading information that some angry human wrote after their divorce 10 years ago may be comforting (or not!) but it also could be totally wrong!

You also don’t know if whatever information you find is complete.

The biggest problem when you’re facing divorce (especially if you’ve been married for a long time!) is that you don’t know what you don’t know. If you miss some piece of critical divorce information because you never thought to ask the right question … oh well!

So, while you CAN find a TON of information about divorce on the internet, knowing that what you’ve found is accurate, complete, and current is a crap shoot.

Q: I’ve got so many things spinning around in my head right now, I don’t know if I can deal with doing an online program, even if it IS exactly what I need!

    I understand.

Yet, because your head is spinning and you’re not sure of anything right now, that’s exactly why an online program can make such a HUGE difference in your divorce.

Let’s face it. Divorce is emotional. It’s overwhelming. Going through a divorce makes it hard to focus on anything else …or even on your divorce itself!

For decades I watched people sit in my office during legal consultations looking like deer in headlights. I could have given them the secrets to the universe in our consultation … and five minutes after they left they wouldn’t have remembered a single thing I said.

That’s why having access to videos that you can watch over and over again anywhere you want, and any time you want, is so life-changing. If you can’t focus on anything today, you can watch them tomorrow … AND, more importantly, you don’t have to keep paying me $500 an hour to continue to give you the same information over and over again.

Q: How long do I have access to the Divorce Road Map 2.0 Program once I get it?

After enrolling, you will have unlimited access to this program for one full year. What’s more, you can access this program on whatever device you have handy … including your phone.

If you need access to the program longer, no problem. Just let us know and we will do our best to make sure that you get access to everything for as long as you need.

Q: Is this program good outside of the United States?

    Probably not.

Even though I’m confident that the Divorce Road Map 2.0 will help you no matter where you live, it is specifically designed for U.S. residents. Because of that, if you are getting a divorce outside of the United States, this is NOT the program for you.

Still Don't Know if This is The Right Program For You?

The Divorce Road Map 2.0 is Perfect for You IF …

    1.      You’re thinking about divorce but haven’t done anything about it and you want to be sure you totally understand what you’re getting into before you decide to end your marriage.

    2.      You’re in the early stages of your divorce and you already see your costs skyrocketing and you want to take control of your divorce before things get really out of hand.

    3.      You believe that divorcing amicably IS possible and you’re willing to do your best to make your divorce as painless (relatively speaking) as possible for you and your kids.

    4.      You’re the kind of person who wants to be in charge of your life rather than let others control your destiny.

    5.      You’re already investing countless hours a week researching lawyers, looking up “how to” articles on divorce, and trying to find ways to get through this time in your life without starting a war or having a breakdown.

    6.      You’re worried that your lawyer will “stir the pot” and make your divorce a hundred times worse than it needs to be, or should be.

    7.      You’re aware that there are ways to go through a divorce that are less destructive and not outrageously expensive and you’re motivated to learn more about those options.

    8.      You’re excited to get the tools you need to start working on a viable parenting plan today.

    9.      You ready to bet on yourself and invest in the Divorce Road Map 2.0. Program, knowing that you could save thousands of dollars in attorney’s fees just by implementing what you learn in this program.

If found yourself nodding in agreement to 5 or more of these questions, then you owe it to yourself, your family, and your future to let the Divorce Road Map 2.0 Program show you how you can have a more amicable, affordable and efficient divorce.

You can't use an old map to explore a new world.

    - Albert Einstein

By now you already know that the biggest difference between people who get divorced amicably and affordably -- without making huge mistakes -- and those who spend a fortune on a long, drawn-out ugly divorce – and STILL make huge mistakes – is the APPROACH they take to their divorce.

    The people who:

    Manage their divorce lawyer,

Actively participate in their divorce, and

Plan ahead as much as they can …

... experience less conflict, spend less money, and get through their divorce in less time, than those who don’t.

In other words, the people who have a MAP have a better divorce experience than those who don’t.

The Divorce Road Map 2.0 is the MAP you need to get through your divorce that same way.

If you are on the edge of divorce, trying to figure out whether you really want to end your marriage or not ...

If you are just starting your divorce, and you’re already feeling overwhelmed and not sure what you should or shouldn’t do to get through this ...

If you want to save time and money in your divorce, but you DON’T want to make rookie mistakes that can affect your family and your finances for years to come ...

If you're tired of spending endless hours on the internet finding information that may (or MAY NOT) be accurate ... OR

If you’re ready to take control of your divorce and set yourself up to be in the best possible position to move on with your life after your divorce ...

The Divorce Road Map 2.0 could save you a ton of time, a lot of money, and a world of avoidable conflict.

"I had been researching lots of “what to expect” but found this the most comprehensive. It also had the bonus of being able to re-review as needed. I never questioned the cost. It is a bargain as it equals the expense of ONE HOUR of an attorney’s time. It saved me a lot of time and expense because I was able to not only provide much of what would be needed, but also point out where to go for what I did not have. It made me a better partner and more able to contribute to the outcome for which my attorney was advocating. "
